Working with guys

Ever thought of how a female working in a male dominated environment feels?

I am in it and trust me on this; it’s as much fun as it is annoying and boring. If you’re the kind who likes attention, it is the ideal place for you to work; all the attention is yours. Everyone wishes to talk to you, have you at least mention their name. If you’re like me, well it’s not such a bad place. It’s manageable (as the Nigerians would say).

Look at the other side; people see you and think, this is so cool or others just pity you. They think you’re trying to do something that females don’t really try out and say “How sad, she just wants to prove masculine”. For those who think its cool, they’ll like to get to know you better. They are actually proud of you though they don’t even know you. It’s like being a star, whiles your fans love you, haters just keep at their job of finding faults.

Being in an auto shop, I’ll say is interesting. The guys actually think you’re too weak or fragile o tighten those nuts and bolts to precision. Yeah we have the torque wrench but we’re in African community, things are done manually around here. Though they are right in most cases, it’s not always true. Keeping your hands soiled through the entire time of working, is another issue I’m not sooo comfortable with and with those parts like the engine block I cannot lift, well that’s why the guys are around.

In totality, it’s not horrible; it’s fun, most especially when you’ve got the right working family with you.
I’m learning loads of things…………………………………… (I’ll keep the rest for another piece)
